Pit for the Pits -- Thursday September 5th, 2019

WATERLOO — Hardcore heavy metal musicians will show their soft side Saturday at the fourth annual “Pit for the Pits” benefit concert at Spicoli’s Reverb.

This is the fourth time area metal musician Danny Shea has organized the event to benefit Cedar Valley Pitbull Rescue and other area animal support groups. After several grueling months of medical treatment for his best fur friend who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2015, Shea said he went homeless to afford the vet costs. After she died, Shea launched “Pit for the Pits” in 2016.

“I was looking for a way to try to help other dogs,” he said. “If it was up to me, everyone would have a dog.”

Used as a Bait Dog, Finn Forgave and Moved On. He Was Too Busy Searching for Love to Dwell. -- Thursday July 11th, 2019

A passing driver found Finn emaciated and alone in a ditch. From the wounds and scars that covered his body, it was apparent that bad people had used Finn as a bait dog. Cedar Valley Pit Bull Rescue pulled him from the shelter and placed him in a great foster home. Despite Finn’s previous life of unwanted violence and danger,  he kissed each of his foster brothers upon meeting them.

But shortly after arriving, it was clear that Finn had serious problems with his legs due to years of abuse. The vet said he had a severe subluxation and that the only way to get this type of injury  is to be swung by the leg.  After his surgery, Finn recovered from his injuries,  and he was so forgiving.  Finn also put on healthy weight thanks to pet food donations from GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank. He was never aggressive, never afraid of people or dogs.  Finn only wanted to be loved in a loving home forever.

Today Finn has a new family with a canine brother. They all love Finn dearly.  Now that Finn has found his pack, they are inseparable, dog and human alike!   Love wins again!

“GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank has helped so much. When you have a dog who has had health issues, the food helps their bodies heal and become the dogs they should be.” – Cedar Valley Pit Bull Rescue

Leecie Featured On KHAK -- Friday May 3rd, 2019

We have lots of dogs that visit us on a Furry Friday that love to relax and play. But noone, and I mean no one, has made themselves at home like our new pal Leecie. She is a pit bull that was rescued by the Cedar Valley Pitbull Rescue organization. She was found abandoned just after having a litter of 11 puppies! All the puppies found homes, and now it's momma's turn to find her forever home!

Leecie is around 2 years old and is full of youthful puppy energy! She was a little jumpy at first but once she settled down, she sat, gave high fives and took her treats with a gentle mouth. She would like to be the only dog in the home as she is a bit dog selective. She does get along with cats, however. As you'll see in the video, Leecie loves to be pet and LOVES to have her belly scratched!

Hy-Vee and Cedar Valley Pit Bull Rescue bring dogs from Texas -- Thursday August 31st, 2017

Posted: Aug 31, 2017 12:02 PM CDTUpdated: Aug 31, 2017 12:12 PM CDT

Cedar Valley Pit Bull Rescue and the Hy-Vee on Mount Vernon teamed up to bring some dogs from Texas up to Iowa.

They left earlier this week to pick up around 11 dogs.

They will go to foster homes until they are adopted.

If you would like to donate to Cedar Valley Pit Bull Rescue, or learn more about how to foster or adopt, you can email melissarescue@gmail.com.

You can also click here to visit their Facebook Page.

On Facebook, they posted this:

We are getting numerous questions regarding donations. We have donation drop-off locations in Cedar Falls, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Oelwein, and a few other places. We can also arrange donation pick-ups. Items still needed:

-Dog/cat food
-Collars and leashes
-Kennels/Carriers
-Blankets
-Flea and heartworm treatment
-Benadryl for motion sickness
-Treats
-Potty pads
-Toys
-Monetary donations for travel and medical expenses

The group plans to make another trip on Friday to possibly get more dogs.

They say that as water recedes in Texas, the need will grow.

They are going down to pull dogs from shelters in the area and make room for more flood dogs.

There is a chance many of the flood dogs still have owners looking for them. Many of the shelters in Texas  are overloaded right now and are in need of immediate help.

If you’re looking for a new furry companion, we may have the perfect fit for you!

It’s Friday, which means we had another pup in the studio this week for ‘Furry Friday!’ This week’s adoptable pet is Billy, a sweet lab-mix who is estimated to be around two-years-old. Billy was in pretty rough shape when he was rescued by Cedar Valley Pitbull Rescue, but now he’s doing fantastic and he needs a loving home! Here’s a video of us playing with Billy in the studio:

If you’re interested in giving Billy a good home, you can get more information from the Cedar Valley Pitbull Rescue website  HERE .

And don’t forget about Myrtle! Myrtle is still looking for a good home with CVPBR, too! She was the sweetest girl in the whole world!

Please help us find these babies some good homes! :)
